Environmental Education and Information Division

The Environmental Education and Information Division (EEID) is primarily mandated to catalyze environmental education in the country, and disseminate information on environmental and pollution matters to the DENR/EMB regional offices and the general public.

The EEID is composed of three sections namely: the Environmental Education Section; the Environmental Information Section; and, the Institutional Coordination and Documentation.

Sections

Environmental Education 

Undertakes programs that will strategically inculcate awareness, understanding, as well as promote skills, positive attitudes, commitments, and active participation of the environment, through the integration of environmental concerns in the school system at all levels, government and private sectors.

Environmental Information 

Documents, collates, and disseminates environmental information in the form of popular information drives, media campaigns, public functions, exhibitions.

Institutional Coordination and Documentation 

Maintains contacts and linkages with various focal points and national/ regional/international organizations, especially the NGOs.

Programs and Activities

1. Continuing provision of environmental information to the DENR/EMB Regional Offices, and for use in the formal school curriculum of the Department of Education, Culture and Sports and the Commission on Higher Education

2. Provision of specialist training to DENR regional offices and strategic partners such as industry groups, local government units, NGOs

3. Support to strategic networks such as the Philippine Association of Tertiary Level Educational Institutions in Environmental Protection and Management (PATLEPAM) where EMB is permanent secretariat of, for strengthening environmental education at the tertiary level

4. Provision of support to international and national environmental events and celebrations such as Earth Day (April 22), World Environment Day (June 5), Philippine Environment Month (June), National Clean Up Month (September), and National Clean Air Month (November)

5. Networking with NGOs and youth groups to facilitate the delivery of environmental education messages to local communities

6. Preparation of the State of the Environment Report

7. Secretariat work for some international environmental commitments such as the:

7.1. Agenda 21, through the Philippine Council for Sustainable Development (PCSD) and its sub-committees, particularly the PCSD Sub-Committee on Information and Education which EMB chairs

7.2. United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, through the Inter-Agency Committee on Climate Change

The EEID, through the years, has also coordinated the conduct of some popular competitions as follows, aimed at increasing the awareness and education of the people on various environmental matters:
