The Official Newsletter of the Philippine Association of Tertiary Level Educational Institutions in Environmental Protection and Management 

Major Accomplishments

These are the Philippine Association of Tertiary Level Educational Institutions in Environmental Protection and Management (PATLEPAM)'s major accomplishments from 1996 to present based on its Five-Year Development Plan.

Organization

  • Forming of a Board of Directors (BOD) and a Management Committee (ManCom) which regularly met, at least quarterly 
  • Increased membership of 380 higher educational institutions nationwide
  • Organized PATLEPAM regional coordinating centers (RCCs) 
  • Adoption of a PATLEPAM logo through a nationwide contest
  • Designated and mobilized the Environmental Education and Information Division of the Environmental Management Bureau of the DENR as Permanent PATLEPAM Secretariat
  • Published PATLEPAM Newsletter annually 
  • Conducted annual Senior Educators' Assembly since 1996, invariably on the following themes: Environmental Education for Sustainable Development; Climate Change; and Local Environmental Governance and Eco-tourism
  • Research and Development for Sustainable Development 
  • The Academe's Commitment to Ecological Solid Waste Management 

Instruction

  • Developed prototype curriculum materials (syllabus, textbook) for the integration of environment in tertiary level education
  • Conducted trainings on Environmental Impact Assessment, Environmental Education, Environmental Management Systems, and Biodiversity Conservation 
  • Endorsed a resolution to the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) on the integration of a 3-unit course on Environment and Sustainable Development into the General Education Curriculum of higher education
  • Jointly organized with the Environment Agency of Japan and the Earth, Water and Green Foundation of Japan, the RP-Japan Seminar on Minamata Disease last February 1998
  • Launching of a Nationwide Contest on : "Best Lessons and Practices on the Environment for Higher Education" 

Research and Development

  • Adopted of the PATLEPAM's National Environmental Research and Development Framework
  • Conducted of a seminar-workshop on Preparing Proposals for Environmental Research 

Extension

  • Formulated a series of PATLEPAM Board of Resolutions enjoining implementation support by the member-institutions to the Clean Air Act and the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act
  • Formulated a Board Resolution in 1998 enjoining member-institutions to conduct activities to national environmental celebrations as follows: Earth Day on April 22, World Environment Day on June 5, Philippine Environment Month in June, Clean Up Month in September, and Clean Air Month in November.
